Whatever happened to sisterhood in last night's episode of the The Apprentice as millions of us tuned in to watch the girls' team tear each others' eyes out over ... ahem, a portable book stand!

I wonder whether men watching the show had the same sense of disappointment in their gender as us girls did in ours?

The candidates were asked to design and promote a beach accessory to pitch to three retailers. Give or take a couple of run ins, the boys' team pretty much got on with it. The girls, on the other hand, turned it into a competition over who could shout the loudest and ruffle the most feathers. Great TV but a shocking representation of women in business - how are our thousands of female graduates out of work meant to be motivated by that? A great advert for unemployment.

Sian Williams questioned where their manners had got to on BBC Break Breakfast news this morning and seemed genuinely outraged. Karren Brady couldn't have put it better when Lord Sugar gave her the chance to step in at the boardroom scene. She scolded:

"You are representing businesswomen today, of which I am one, and some of your behaviour is outrageous."

"75 per cent of my management team is women and I've never come across anything like this.

"You have to remember who you're representing in this process - young women out there who want to have an opportunity to do this. You should be an example to them."

A shame that PR girl joyless Joy got the chop. Okay so she didn't appear to be contributing very much and failed to crack a smile this week and last but at least she acted with a bit of decorum and integrity.

All's well that ends well though. The girls broke a record for being the first team on The Apprentice to not secure any sales during the task - shame! Proof that aggression and bullying doesn't get you to the top.
