The big news this week was that Octopus Group got
nominated for our first global award from
The Holmes Report. Oh yes. Outstanding Technology
Consultancy for 2011 for THE WORLD. We were already really
chuffed to win the European crown earlier in the year but this is a
bit mad really.
However, at the same time, The Holmes Report released its world
rankings which I glanced at only to find that Octopus Group is
ranked at 152 in the world.
Now initially I screwed my face up at this - celebrating a
152nd position seemed a bit sad - but the more people I
mentioned it to, the more people seemed to think it was actually
quite cool. After all, there are lots of countries in the
world and quite a lot more PR agencies. And as for us, we're
only 10 years old, unlike some of the heavyweights above
us. So I got to thinking….
What about other things, that are 152nd? That was way more
fun.
152nd
Largest Country (by population): Estonia (went there once on a
stag do)
152nd
Largest Economy: Suriname (erm, struggling)
152nd Biggest City:
Damascus, Syria (I probably wouldn't go there on holiday)
152nd
Biggest Company: Dow Chemical (didn't they do something bad
once?)
152nd
FIFA Ranked National Team: Madagascar (they have lots of Lemurs
there according to the film)
152nd Most Followed
on Twitter: Ryan Sheckler (skateboarder apparently?)
152nd Richest
Person: Antonia Johnson (Swedish family money)

This was great fun but I had to stop myself and get back to
work. But I suppose it highlights that everyone loves a
ranking. And there is one for just about everything, even PR
agencies. There is something about a list, no matter what it's
based on.
So I'll let you decide if being the 152nd biggest PR
agency in the world by revenue is good or bad, but either way,
taking on the world at anything is quite cool.
