So, the Octopus consumer team, otherwise known as
The Sons of Pitches, comprising of myself (Tommy Flisher),
Naomi Barry, Katie Potts, Juliet Cameron and Olie Mitchell have
enjoyed the HUGE privilege of driving a selection of brand-spanking
new BMWs.
This is because our fabulous client, BMW Financial Services,
thought that as we were representing the brand we should know one
end of their amazing cars from the other, so hooked us up with a
loan for the week. We were given a 6 Series convertible, an X5, a 3
series convertible, a 1 series MSport and a racing green Mini
Cooper. Just listing their names out is an absolute pleasure, let
alone driving the things...
I can report however that the team and I, were
reasonably considerate drivers until we found ourselves
with about twenty times the usual horsepower straining under our
bonnets. I followed the formerly mild-mannered Naomi Barry to a
meeting (she had the X5) the other day for example, and witnessed
her driving like a woman possessed, merging across multiple lanes
without looking, pedal to the metal, shouting "YEAH! Rumsfield!" -
not entirely unlike the Hummer driver
from Family Guy.
Anyway, we had the best fun driving them and want to say thank
you to our generous client for giving us the opportunity to
road-test such beautiful machines. I had the 6 Series, which was so
amazing in fact, that I have been compelled to pen an ode to it,
thus:
A Skidmark Across My Heart: An Ode to the BMW 6
Series
Oh shiny BMW 6 Series,
You are well fit,
With your heated leather seats,
That warm beneath my bits.
You make me feel a better man,
Especially when at the lights,
Smiling smugly, revving hard,
As I judge cars left and right.
Oh how I will miss,
My shiny BMW,
No car will ever feel the same;
They just won't compare to you.
PS: A footnote to Doreen Barry, mother of Naomi Barry, who may
well be reading this: I have exaggerated Naomi's driving of the X5
for comic effect : )
PPS: We also recall a recent Octo-Blog post from Zuzu that
suggested consumer PR wasn't as much fun as Tech PR... Just
sayin'!
Tommy
